This one month group project aimed to respond to two programs with different aims, Yoga and Retreat.
While the practice of Yoga is an inward journey that requires both calm and seclusion, a bedroom is more about horizons, about being woken by the warmth of the morning sun. In this extent, we split the program and divided the plan into two parts both linked and autonomous. The Yoga program is protected, close to the slope and trees, whereas the bedrooms are open facing south-west for the sun and view.
The journey starts with a bridge through the trees and steps down to the seclusion of the main yoga studio. Orthogonal axes are used to connect the different parts and create routes through the building : linking the accommodation to the main circulation and the terrace to the public footpath. These strong lines are accentuated to separate the various spaces, and broken to create glimpse views into the landscape and adjacent courtyards.
As the plan is pulled apart, courtyards are naturally produced and architecture begins to be part of the landscape.
